Cadbury COVID-19 response

Cadbury believe there is generosity and kindness in everyone. Behind every wall, on every street, there are wonderful stories of kindness and generosity right now.

Founded in the UK in 1824, Cadbury has a proud history of philanthropy, corporate responsibility and chocolate making. In these challenging times, we have an obligation to give back.

Here is what we’re doing to help.

Supporting our charity partner

At this time Age UK’s vital services are in more demand than ever before.

We’ve been working with Age UK since early 2019 when we partnered with them to help tackle the issue of loneliness amongst older people with the ‘Donate your words’ campaign. We ‘donated the words’ from the packaging of our iconic Dairy Milk bars in support of the 225,000 older people who often go a whole week without speaking to anyone with 30p from each bar going towards Age UK.

Supporting the community

We’re working with industry and both national and local charities such as FareShare, Community Shop and the Trussell Trust to organise and distribute thousands of products to communities across the country. We’ve also donated funds to the National Emergencies Trust and GroceryAid to support colleagues working in the grocery industry and those across the food and drink supply chain.

Thanking key workers

Key workers have been working tirelessly to take care of the nation during the pandemic. To say thank you we donated over 2 million Easter products to hospitals, care homes, Age UK and Community Shop across the country.

Using our technology for good

Mondelēz International has joined forces with engineering company 3P innovation to help produce thousands of medical visors every day to protect front line NHS staff. We are repurposing our 3D printing technology (which is normally used to make chocolate sculptures at Bournville, the home of Cadbury) to help print the medical visors.

One of our facilities in Reading has also repurposed their production line to produce and donate hand sanitizer for Age UK and other community groups in need.

These initiatives follow those of years gone by. In the 1940s we set up Bournville Utilities Ltd to help make gas masks, jerricans, service respirators and aeroplane parts for Spitfires and Lancaster Bombers during WWII.
